The latest Messy Church was Saturday 19th September
Harvest Thanksgiving
Our joyful celebration was about God’s provision and creative power. We talked about how the harvest from the sea is as important as the one from the land.
Our activities included using willow to weave fish, making (and eating) fruit kebabs and talking about how new fruits grow from the seeds. We constructed 3D paper fruit and made 3D mushrooms from paper plates. We also wove baskets using strips of paper and decorated a tower to illustrate the seasons. Plus, we worked together to create a giant scarecrow out of plastic bottles. To remind ourselves of the importance of water we made mobiles to represent the water cycle and wrote our prayers on the clouds.
Our celebration focussed on how God’s care for the world gives us harvest time. We were reminded how God is always there at scary times and to remember to pray to him for help. Everyone enjoyed learning a new song, Harvest Samba.
The next Messy Church will be 10am Saturday 17th October

What on earth is Messy Church???
Most people think of 'church' as people sitting quietly in rows, saying quiet prayers and listening to someone talking for quite a long time.
And church services can be like that...
but they don't have to be.
People can come together to enjoy being with God in all sorts of ways.
The important things are that
we are together
we are listening to God
we are learning more about God
whoever we are, and whether or not we like sitting quietly in rows and all that.
Messy Church
gives familes of all ages, shapes and compositions the chance to
enjoy crafts and other activities
take part in some simple worship
and to have breakfast together.
It's great for those of us who think with our hands
and don't much like sitting still.
It meets once a month on Saturday mornings*
10 - 11:30am
in St James' Church
(but not in the pews!)
