Welcome to our Messy Church page

Maybe you're wondering what Messy Church is all about?

Please click here to find out more.....

Our next Messy Church will be on Saturday 21st May 10 - 11:30am

in St James' Church, Church Road, B90 2AX.

It seems like the country is going Jubilee crazy – and at Messy Church this month we’ll be getting in the mood for the Big Weekend. We’ll be constructing beacons, crafting crowns, baking Queen cakes (sounds yummy!), making bunting and a big banner - and doing lots of other Messy stuff besides. And then in our celebration we’ll be thinking about Queen Elizabeth, and about the king she follows, King Jesus.

And of course, we’ll have our usual ‘tea and toast’ (other drinks available!) – so you can sip and munch whilst you’re sticking and making.

We hope you can come! It’s all happening on Saturday 21st May, 10-11:30am in St James’ Church. There’s no need to book, but if you can let us know you’re coming that helps us to make sure we have enough Mess for everyone. You can email Kate at , or text 07809 481823, or phone the Parish Office on 0121 745 8896.

But if you’re not able to tell us it really doesn’t matter – just come anyway!

PS If you've not been to Messy Church before it would be great if you can print off and fill in our contact and consent form here.

We'll also have paper copies available on the day.

And, whilst we’re talking about the Jubilee, Shirley Parish also has a lot going on during Jubilee weekend itself.

Thu 2nd – Sun 5th: Flowers and history display in St James’ Church (Bring your granny and great-granny, and persuade them to tell you about the last 70 years)

Sat 4th June, 2-5pm: Street Party outside St James - with special activities from your very own Messy Church team!

Sun 5th June 10:30am: Jubilee Songs of Praise at St James - where this month’s fabulous Messy Church banner will be on display for everyone to see. (Look out for the slips at the back of St James where you can nominate your favourite hymn or worship song!)

Put them in your diary and we look forward to welcoming you!

What on earth is Messy Church???

Most people think of 'church' as people sitting quietly in rows, saying quiet prayers and listening to someone talking for quite a long time.

And church services can be like that...

but they don't have to be.

People can come together to enjoy being with God in all sorts of ways.

The important things are that

we are together

we are listening to God

we are learning more about God

whoever we are, and whether or not we like sitting quietly in rows and all that.

Messy Church

gives familes of all ages, shapes and compositions the chance to

enjoy crafts and other activities

take part in some simple worship

and to have breakfast together.

It's great for those of us who think with our hands

and don't much like sitting still.

It meets once a month on Saturday mornings*

10 - 11:30am

in St James' Church

(but not in the pews!)

Church Road

B90 2AX

*the third Saturday of each month.

Don't worry - we'll remind you when it is via email if you wish.

And all our updates are posted on Facebook, Twitter and this page.

Messy Church

is open to everyone -

Please come and get stuck in!
