Messy Christmas

Our next Messy Church will be 10.00am Saturday 20th December

Decembers Newsletter is available via this link

This month our theme was “Remembering”

We talked about how remembrance is a time for us to remember and be thankful for all men and women around the world who fought for their countries and for peace. We also learned why we wear poppies to help us remember all of these brave people.

Jesus taught us to be peace makers and we made dove peace prayers to remember the importance of peace. These were then carefully hung up in Church.

We made savoury poppy biscuits, using the symbol which we use to remember all the people who served to protect us.

We also talked about remembrance in a broader sense. We crafted stained glass windows, using acetate and glass pens. Stained glass windows in churches help us to remember stories from the Bible.  We played a memory game and made bubble pictures – although the bubbles themselves don’t last, the pictures that they make do!

We then remembered the birth of Jesus.

We made kings and camels and hung these on our Messy Church Christmas Tree, the theme for which is “We Three Kings”

Our Celebration focused on part of the story of Joseph (Genesis chapter 37 onwards)

The cupbearer remembers that Joseph can say what dreams mean, his brothers remember what they did to him, and his father remembers his long-lost son.

The children enthusiastically watched this being acted out.

What is Messy Church

What on earth is Messy Church???

Most people think of 'church' as people sitting quietly in rows, saying quiet prayers and listening to someone talking for quite a long time.

And church services can be like that...

but they don't have to be.

People can come together to enjoy being with God in all sorts of ways.

The important things are that

we are together

we are listening to God

we are learning more about God

whoever we are, and whether or not we like sitting quietly in rows and all that.

Messy Church

gives familes of all ages, shapes and compositions the chance to

enjoy crafts and other activities

take part in some simple worship

and to have breakfast together.

It's great for those of us who think with our hands

and don't much like sitting still.

It meets once a month on Saturday mornings*

10 - 11:30am

in St James' Church

(but not in the pews!)

Church Road

Shirley

B90 2AX

*the third Saturday of each month.

Don't worry - we'll remind you when it is via email if you wish.

And all our updates are posted on Facebook and this page.

Messy Church

is open to everyone -

Please come and get stuck in!
