In “normal” times, we have a wide range of social and community based activities. We are currently trying out new ways of meeting – either online or over the phone – and of course, some events happen outdoors anyway. Please see our weekly noticesheet for updates.
You’re very welcome to any or all of these activities – please contact the Parish Office for more details, including exact venues and/or Zoom links and phone numbers.
Tuesday Cafe with bingo: Bring your own cuppa (and maybe cake?), have a chat and join in with the bingo. Prizes (chocolate???) are on offer.
Via Zoom or on the phone - please contact the Parish Office for the links/phone number and to order your all-important bingo card.
Happening next: Tuesday 26th Jan, 2pm.
St John's Coffee morning: Second Wednesday of each month. Bring your coffee and cake and join in the chat.
Via Zoom or on the phone - please contact the Parish Office for the links/phone number.
Happening next: Wed 10th Feb; 10:30am
PS Thanks to everyone who took part in the September coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. A magnificent £490 was raised.
St James' Churchyard working group: Thursday mornings from 10am for 1-2 hours. Everyone welcome to join this friendly group maintaining St James' Churchyard for the benefit of all - visitors and wildlife. Please see here to find out more about what we are currently working on.

Messy Church @ Home: Get creative with the Creator! Whilst we're not able to meet in person our monthly activities are all online here.
Happening next: Saturday 16th Jan
Shirley Parish Book Club: Each book is chosen by one of our members - we usually have 5-6 weeks per book. We've recently read The President's Hat by Antoine Laurain, and The Gustav Sonata by Rose Tremain.
Whilst we cannot meet in person we are writing a very short response to share our thoughts. These are then sent to the other members and a summary is published in the Parish Magazine. We have also tried meeting over Zoom.
We're always on the lookout for new members. Please contact the Parish Office for more information.
Activities currently suspended due to coronavirus:
Sadly we are just not able to run some of our usual activities at this time. Please keep checking back for updates on the following:

Jimmy Tots: Stay and play for pre-schoolers and their parents/carers.
Engagement with schools: Including Journey to the Stable, Easter Journey and Open the Book.
Nordic Walking: Whether you like striding out or ambling along, there will be someone to walk with. Whilst we can't all gather together, we suggest contacting friends and making up groups of six or less to keep getting your regular exercise!
Ploughman's Lunch: fortnightly lunch and chat.
Friends of St James': Organising fund-raising activities to support the fabric of St James Church building and Church House.
